For those of you who don't have the incredible patients I've no doubt it must take to follow me on twitter (@angelgazing, ftr, if you want to join the insanity) I am in the process of doing something I've dreamed about for as long as I can remember and opening my own restaurant.

It's not going to be anything very big, or very fancy. It's not going to be exactly the place I've imagined for years. But it's going to be mine, and I'm so excited about it I tend to lapse into verbal keysmashing when the subject comes up. (Thank whatever from high atop the thing, honestly, for gyzym's ability to understand when I speak in keysmash.)

I grew up in a restaurant, because my family owned one from the time I was four until they sold it about 9 years ago. I remember being six and training a new waitress on where the tables were. I remember learning to work the register. I still can't handle cash that isn't all facing the same direction. I remember slicing a billion lemons, and watching my great grandmother make bread, and having cake for breakfast, and buttered sourdough straight out of the oven. The smell of it baking is always going to ping a little bit like home for me. We're naming the new place after her.

Anyway, because I keep flailing like the ridiculous person that I am, and it's going to be a crazy and stupidly long process and also, I know that mostly people are here for fandom, I've decided to go ahead and create a filter for the news/updates/random flail about this and the process and getting it going. 3. Today I was avoiding traffic by hanging around Target when a guy walks up behind me and says, "Excuse me, ma'am?" And I'm thinking "Yeah, I can't find ANYTHING in this store, please don't ask me for help," but I'm fresh off three hours of customer service training videos so instead I say, "Yes?" And he says, "Has anyone told you lately that you are gorgeous?" Which is a ridiculous statement, because my hair was a mess and my makeup was ruined and I kept tripping over my own pant legs and was walking toward the Starbucks inside of Target like it held the meaning to life, and also, you know, I'm me. And it isn't as though I didn't realize it was a lame pickup attempt. But still, it made me smile.
3.a) It's so easy to make someone's day just a little bit better, you guys. So easy. Why don't more people do that?

4. Started the new job today. Spent an hour playing on my phone, waiting for the training officer to start training me. But apparently I got paid for it, so... I guess that's a win?

I owe people comments, and emails, and eventually I should also post my yuletide over in this direction, but I'm still pretty exhausted. I couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep last night, my stomach was still pretty wobbly all day today, and I've spent more time on the phone in the last two days than I have in the last two months.

I will totally do those things I need to be doing. But for now, I think I will curl up with a) Buffy reruns, b) season two of BBT or, c) the Holmes book I just bought, with stories written by Niel Gaiman and Stephen King and... other people. IDK.

Tomorrow is a big day. I don't have a better opening line for this entry. You know what's coming anyway.

I'm not telling you who to vote for. Lord knows, I am in a red state, I am pretty used to being disagreed with on who I think the ballot should be cast for. The point isn't what I think the choice should be, or the policies I believe are right or wrong.

The point is: this is America, and that used to mean more than it does, I think.

The point is: we have a choice.

It is our right to stand up, now, to stand up 365.25 days of the year, and blog until our fingers ache, to shout at the top of our lungs about what we think are the rights and wrongs and injustices. Tomorrow, we have the chance to make a change.

Make a choice.

It's like the tv says: decisions are made by those who show up.
