this post doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up
I am having a day. This is a day of random incoherent rage, but whatever, I'm working on it. The internet makes all the things better, right?
It helps that The Inception Anon Love Meme is still going strong. It's fabulous to know that there are people out there who really just want to make someone else feel better about themselves. There's something to be said for making someone else smile. The whole thing just warms my cold, dead heart. ♥♥♥
I am totally going to have to do a second part to the Steve/Danny pimping post. Partly because I was unaware that I was writing a primer, and partly because I managed to miss art in the last post. But look, look at Steve and Danny. Look how happy they are. Don't you want them to keep smiling and being happy and building sandcastles with Grace? *coughs* The point here, is if you have any Hawaii Five-0 recs, be they fic or art or comms, please for the love of god hand them over.
Seriously, though, seriously, I want the story where Danny gets hurts and Rachel flips out again and threatens to take custody back to court because clearly his life is a danger to Grace, so Steve is like, NO, NO, I GOT THIS. And in order to seem like Danny's is a stable environment he and Danny get married, and Danny moves into Steve's house--all while still recovering from like, a GSW that means Steve goes back and forth from "omg wtf you can't do that" to "stop being such a baby" because he's Steve. And Mary is pissed that she missed the wedding, and Chin is just smug because he called it, and Kono is like getting into fights at even the hint that someone is going to give Steve and Danny shit about being married (though mostly everyone is just like... and this is different how?). And then they figure their shit out and stop pretending like they're only pretending to be totally married. And Rachel is like, well finally, be by at seven for Grace on Friday, would you?

I am, however, gearing up to write the fic where Danny makes the mistake of walking past one of those adopt-a-pet things in the park, and Gracie wants a puppy and WHATEVER IRRELEVANT FACT, Danny decides that Steve obviously needs this puppy. To give him something to care about! So he'll stop jumping in front of bullets if he has to get home to feed the dog! And to prove he can keep something other than himself alive, because Danny's not really convinced he's even very good at that! Not because Gracie falls in love and he can't have a dog at his apartment. Not because he thinks Steve is maybe lonely. And so not because the puppy was making a face that Steve makes when he really, really, really wants the last cup of coffee but isn't going to ask Danny for it.
Then Grace names the puppy Justin Bieber, because she's eight, and Steve really should've known better than to let her pick. Because it sticks. Danny is all Biebs! And Steve is all J-Dog! And the dog makes them sit right next to each other on the couch and chews on Danny's ties and WHATEVER THERE IS A PUPPY AND THEY ALL MAKE A BIG HAPPY FAMILY THE END.

But it is not all magically perfect at first! Because after Steve finds yet another tall building to almost drop someone off the side of, Danny gets to thinking that maybe he made a mistake after all! Maybe the puppy is in danger! Maybe he should sneak by after work to see that the poor thing is not being horribly mistreated!
And it turns out Steve is like superdaddy but with puppies (but eventually with Grace, too, because Grace totally won the daddy lottery)! And Danny learns that being gruff is how Steve expresses *aff~ec~tion*!
Or, what he sees is that the puppy is being completely neglected because Steve is almost afraid of it! Because he just doesn't know how to treat things likes more than he thinks he should! And Danny teaches him how to looooooove. Through the puppy. Which he has to show Steve how to raise properly, obvs.
Or! The puppy is fed and watered, but other than keeping it alive Steve basically neglects it! (He doesn't give it away because it's a gift from Danny and he can't bring himself to, tho he tells himself it's only because he doesn't want to see Danny's stupid smirking I-told-you-so face). So Danny teaches him the importance of, like, hugs. For the good of dogkind.
THERE IS SO MUCH POTENTIAL IN PUPPIES, WHUT. YOU HAVE TO WRITE THIS. HAVE TO. I AM DYING ALREADY.

If I write the story the closest it will come to angst is when Steve trains the puppy to be a police dog and Chin suggests they actually use the dog for that purpose, and Steve is just like no. No way, not a chance. And Danny is like THERE IS NO WAY ARE YOU, CRAZY YOU ARE NOT USING OUR DOG IN A POLICE INVESTIGATION, at Steve. And Steve is like I JUST SAID NO, WHAT THE HELL, DANNY. And Danny is like, I realize that now, yes, but IT IS A HABIT TO YELL AT YOU. You trained Beibs as a police dog in the first place! And Kono and Chin are like... Biebs? And Steve is like TO PROTECT GRACE. I trained him to protect Grace, not to use in an active investigation, Danny, Jesus! And Danny doesn't realize it at the time, but he totally wants to swoon a little.
