All the TV that I Have Loved

The bad news for Arrested Development keeps on coming.

This has prompted a very serious discussion between [livejournal.com profile] musesfool and myself. And by "very serious discussion" I mean, I've been whining, and then decided to just take a brand new action.

Yes. I've decided that action must be taken, please attempt to contain your surprise. I have decided that I must start a TV channel for all my favorite dead, canceled-before-their-time shows. I'm not just talking reruns, because that's been done, man. I'm talking brand new episodes of Firefly, spanking new Arrested Development until it stops making me laugh for hours (we're not here to talk nonsense to Bob Loblaw), a resolution to Miracles, more wacky, snarktastic adventures in Wonderfalls! This might be my new goal in life, people. My lost loves, no longer lost, running back to back, until I say so.

[livejournal.com profile] musesfool, however, detected a problem. I cannot run an entire network on four shows. I need more. So I beg you, LJ, give me your weak, give me your loved, give me your cult-like fandoms with shiny new bows. You've got an opinion on this, I know you do.

Everyone's got a show they loved that's gone now. Everyone's got a show that only they watched. Tell me what it is. I've got network building to do.

[Poll #610722]

Thank you for your input, please feel free to give me any other thoughts you comments you may have, and make sure to pass it around so your friends will tell me too. We don't want anyone missing out on this ground breaking opportunity to help build a network by the unrepresented masses for the unrepresented masses.

* The second, third, fourth and so on will be put in comments.

Channel name: something that bitchily yet smartly makes fun of Fox because, let's face it, it's the worst culprit.

As for second, third, etc, I select:
- in the sitcom category: Sports Night, Undeclared and Freaks & Geeks, to be put together on Mondays to cheer me up after the start of yet another week.
- in the "Deep inside of me, there's a teenage girl screaming to be let free" category: My So Called Life, Felicity, Joan of Arcadia and Young Americans.
- in the "Why, God, why?!" category: Profit, Carnivale and Action.
- and in the I will be killed dead if I don't mention those shows sci-fi shows category: Angel and Firefly.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Fox really is the worst culprit. And personally, I think that American Idol has made the bastards smug with the foolish notion that they can do away with quality programing to get ratings. My god, my hate for them grows and grows and grows with every thought. I swore off Fox once, you know, and it went so well until House. House. I should steal it for my network before Fox can further fuck it.

As for your list, OMG Sports Night, yes. Because I've got mad crazy Josh Charles love. Plus, you know, Aaron Sorkin does banter like no one else can. Ah, banter, how I love thee. (Seriously, Supernatural hits on every single thing I love.)

Freaks & Geeks I thought of last night as well. It was never a show that I watched, because I'm one of those people who squirms in secondary embarrassment entirely too easy, but my mom loved it. Plus, I figure any show that's got fans willing to shell out $90 for dvds totally deserves to be on the list. ;)

Joan of Arcadia I loved in the first season, and would like it see it fix the whole Adam mistake from the second. Wentworth Miller is also a nice little... bonus, or something. lol Angel. OMG Angel. My mom cried when it was canceled. There were tears. Firefly's totally a given, man, and you know the cast would jump at it too.

As for Profit, I didn't know of it until just recently, when I was reading about the dvds coming out. And since it's the guy who did The Inside (oh! also in the line-up) and Wonderfalls, I figure it's a show I've got to see.

second and third, etc:

- La Femme Nikita. Yes, it got four and a half seasons, but that didn't stop it from being cool.
- Wildside (an Australian cop show you have never heard of, but it is the best cop show ever)
- The Pretender
- Fraggle Rock

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! I totally thought of The Pretender. Just because if they ever explained what happened to his brother I totally missed it. Bastards. Then I got confused as to how many seasons it actually had on the air. And then I remembered how crazy nice to look at Jared was and got distracted. ;)

[identity profile] nyias.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
But they did explain what happened to his brother-- in a second season episode called "Red Rock Jarod."

*has no Kyle icon, so settles for Lyle instead*

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
While I'm not entirely sure I remember what you mean, I was actually talking about, uh, Ethen. The brother that he got right before the cancelled the show. Then there was a TV movie and he was a murder suspect or something, and then he was kidnapped right at the very end. I think. It's been a while since I've seen The Pretender at all.
ext_12434: (all broots's fault)

[identity profile] nyias.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Golly gee, I'd forgotten about Ethan, the guy who was everybody's brother. They didn't explain that one, but then again I never saw the final wrap-up TV movie (I did see the first one, though.)

Pretender can be so confusing most of the time.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Hee. I watched 'em all. I used to watch The Pretender reruns all the time, and then they moved it to some insane hour in the morning, and I haven't seen it in a very, very long time. It's all fuzzy on me now. Woe, man. Very woe.

Expansion

[personal profile] frogfarm 2005-11-12 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
My wife actually wants "Space Rangers" *AND* "Nightmare Cafe". I'd settle for "Firefly".

Re: Expansion

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Firefly is a must. I believe it may be one of the loves of my life. Don't try and tell me there can only be one, I won't listen to you.

The other two I've never heard of. Which just goes to show and all, I suppose. But one of them has "nightmare" and "cafe" in the title, so I'm thinking there's kind of a chance that I'll like it. I'm funny that way. :)

Dating myself too... Gotta have more Voyager, only *fix* it for God's sake (no stupid Chakotay/7-of-9 relationship at the last minute, and do something about poor lonely Tuvok... I mean, really, is it *logical* to leave a Vulcan unattatched when you think you're not going to get home for ever? I don't think so. Of course this would involve eradicating the last season, maybe the last two or three, but really, I can live with that). And let's see, what else? My So-Called Life, and Ally McBeal, and Boston Public, and Cupid (anyone remember that? Hey, I liked it). And you can call the network ReRunz, unless that sounds too much like an unfortunate medical malady....
ext_12434: (all broots's fault)

[identity profile] nyias.livejournal.com 2005-11-12 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I totally remember Cupid, and I voted for it. My second choice would be Sports Night.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Your choices are solid. lol I like, I like.

And I've never seen Cupid. But, again, Rob Thomas! I like. :)

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
lalala I never watched Voyager or any Star Trek lalalala

Oh! Cupid! It's Rob Thomas. I never watched it, but it's Rob Thomas, it's got people wailing about the fact that the network never put out dvds! I like it. It should fit right in.

And, hee! ReRunz. It does indeed sound like an unfortunate medical malady, and not the kind that I wish for a network of shows people loved to be paired with, but still it makes me hee.

[identity profile] rhyana.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to say about my choice of TV network names, some guys in Canada might not approve of the acronym.

And my other show choices would be Sports Night, Le Femme Nikita, and Dead Like Me.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
SCTV! My uncle loves that show. lol

And, oh, oh Sports Night really is a must, and I'm so ashamed for having forgotten about Dead Like Me.

[identity profile] bluerosefairy.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
My other votes are for The Pretender, Joan of Arcadia, and Firefly (of course).

And more ranting about Carnivale - Dear HBO. Suck it. You stick an Emmy-nominated show in the most godawful time slot possible, and you put NO MONEY into promoting it. You bitch about its cost, yet you can spend more than three times the money on "Rome", which gets nearly the EXACT SAME RATINGS. And really, how the shit do you meddle with a show creator like Dan Knauf? But hey, he got the last laugh on you. He's working for the compitition, and it's pretty much all your fault. Though I suppose I should be thankful that most of your WILDLY OOC plot suggestions didn't make it onto the show. You all clearly need your heads examined. Love, Drea.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I like all your votes. Yay!

And really, the worst thing about HBO cancelling it is that we can't even get that mad at them. Or, at least, I can't. Because they put on shows that no one else would ever dream of showing. I sort of wish they'd pick up AD for me. It gets Emmys how can a show that gets Emmys be canned? ::wails more::

[identity profile] abremaline.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Network name - "Taylor" Because on Bold and the Beautiful she has came back from the dead at least three times. Much like our favourite tv shows, shes never really dead. Even if she was blown up mid-air.

2nd Show I would like more of - 'Once A Thief.' Again because it rocked. Also because I've still not recovered from how they finished that off. I refuse to accept it. Show had so much potential, was so very watchable and then ____ aflsdkafjs;lsd!!!!!!! Like I said, I refuse to accept the ending given.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
lmao Taylor! ::dies:: That's just kind of genius. I wonder who the most often "dead" character on soaps is, really, because for some reason I want to believe that Laura on GH might be. Though didn't they like, have Taylor's ghost show up and talk to her kids or some crap like that? Fuckers. :p

I don't know either of you TV choices, so clearly this'll take some looking into. lol

[identity profile] abremaline.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
I think they did do the ghost thing. Really, I don't think there is any way they haven't killed her off. She always comes back....

Doesn't suprise me. They were both played at about 1 and 2 am over here. Sort of obscure...but, I loved them.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I often wonder how much and what the writers of soaps are smoking.

And then I wonder, if they shared, would we be more able to enjoy their crazy ass shows? It's a thing to ponder.

[identity profile] abremaline.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
It is. Somehow I don't think it would increase enjoyment so much as make us less able to change the channel....

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
So clearly sharing is in their best interest. Thougth maybe not in ours. It would be a nice little lesson for kidding though. "If you do drugs you'll have to watch soaps!"

[identity profile] abremaline.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHA! Nothing would turn teens off drugs faster then that!

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly people should just hire me to scare them from drugs. I mean, clearly. :p

[identity profile] profshallowness.livejournal.com 2005-11-13 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Here via [livejournal.com profile] musesfool. My second and third etcs would be ones that other people have mentioned. Farscape, because we should have had a full fifth season. And in a similar vein, Firefly of course.

If it weren't idiotic, a third season of Dark Angel would have been lovely, although, in most of the scenarios that I could envisage, it would have been idotic.

Word on others' suggestions of Cupid and Dead Like Me and I'm sure there are others that I could think of, and will remember about five minutes having gone to bed.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I remembered a lot right after signing off. Such is life, no?

lol Thank you for your input, all suggets will be handled by the, um, suggestion department. ;) Thank you and have a nice day.
