drabbles - GG; Supernatural; Firefly; AD; HP

::clears throat:: Since you lot refuse to entertain me, and, uh, a lot of other reasons (my current inability to title anything), I bring you a meme game!

Put your music folder/playlist on random, pick a line from the first five songs and use them as titles for five drabbles/ficlets. Come on, you know you want to.

Roll Me Up in Coffee Cake - GG - Gen - G - 100 words

She drags her fork across her plate. Her mouth is down turned at the corners, heavy with lipstick and worry and syrup that she licks away absently, with the tip of her tongue, looking out the window while he takes Kirk's order.

There's an empty seat next to her that shouldn't be empty and it's not like Rory's gone it's just that Rory's not here in all the small ways. He slides another plate in front of her, with the kind of caffeine and sugar that she loves for breakfast, and walks away. When he looks back again, she's smiling.

(One Minute at a Time) - Supernatural - Gen - PG - 300 words

"I really, really hate you," Dean says, and sounds kind of chipper about it, so apparently this is worse than Sam originally thought.

And Sam originally thought it was pretty damn bad, you know, all things considered. It's dark, and it's hot, and there's a serial killer of the chainsaw wielding variety on the other side of the door that they can't open, and they're in a closet of all places. And really, he's not sure which of those things is worse.

Sam, casually, stretches his foot four inches and, through razor sharp instincts, kicks Dean in the shin. "This is not my fault," he hisses, and adds as an afterthought, "Shh!"

"Oh, Dean, don't be stupid, this is exactly our kind of problem! We have to help this poor, defenseless girl! She's one of my friends from college, and trying to help them out has never gotten us into any kind of trouble," Dean answers, in falsetto. "Hey, remember the guy who stole your face and now you're legally dead?"

Sam just kicks him again. "This is not my fault," he repeats just for clarification. "Just because it's some freak reenacting horror movies instead of—"

"There are police for a reason, Sam."

"And the police were doing such a bang up job—"

"You're right," Dean says, after sixteen seconds of listening to a chainsaw somewhere in the distance on the other side of the door. There's a dull scream. Dean's still got his fist wrapped tight around the butt of his gun, and it hits Sam's thigh kind of hard because he's angry. "Fine, okay, you're right. Are you happy now?"

"Oh, God." Sam deflates, leans back against the wall with horror. "We're going to die."

"Shut up," Dean says, and kicks him. "I've got a plan."

The Morning After Daze - Firefly - River/Mal - PG - 100 words

He dreams too loudly, and it keeps her from sleeping. But he doesn't dream of blue hands or needles or the faces of Miranda. He dreams of fields, of animals who know what they are. There's a woman there with her hands on her wide hips, tanned from sun with palms that're rough from work and she whispers in his ear and makes him laugh.

River laughs too, softly, splays her too-soft hand on his shoulder and slides it down, cups his elbow, cradles his wrist, catches his hand and he wakes.

"What're you doing," Mal asks, and she laughs.

Cigarettes and Sweets - AD - George Michael/Maeby - PG - 200 words

"What… What are you doing?" George Michael asks, ignoring the part of him that probably doesn't want to know and the part that already does.

Maeby laughs like she does when he asks a stupid question, like she's still smarter than him and he'll never be able to catch up with her. "Nothing," she says, twirling a cigarette in her fingers. She blows out smoke and it smells like cherry. "I'm thinking of running away to England."

He sits down beside her, uninvited, and gets sand in his shoes. "That's… England is pretty far away. Don't most people just run away to the beach or something? I mean, I don't know, I've never done it. I'm just guessing. You hear people talk about running away to join the circus, but never to England." George Michael pauses to take a breath and laughs nervously, laughs like he's as scared as he is. "Besides, I mean, I'd miss you if you were that far away."

"You'd have to come with me," she says, like it's obvious, and tries to hand him the cigarette but he shakes his head. "That's the whole point."

And George Michael will never be able to catch up.

In This Desert Dry - HP - Sirius/Remus - PG-13 - 100 words

Sirius shivers, feet bare in the snow that stretches up to his ankles, shifts up to his calves, breathes over his knees—slowly and all at once—hands over his ears, elbows exposed to the cold. There's a howling in the distance, like there was at Hogwarts, and he wants closer, knows where he should be but he can't get there. He shivers, shakes, trembles, and wakes to a palm warm on his stomach, fingers spread out, holding him in, together. Holding him close. Remus is warm, behind him, breathing on his shoulder and pretending to sleep, and Sirius shivers.

Titles are from, in order:
The Shins 'Your Algebra'
The Fight Club Soundtrack 'This is Your Life'
The Vines 'She's Got Something to Say'
Ryan Adams '1974'
The Decemberists 'The Legionnaire's Lament'

Yay! You wrote Mal/River. It's lovely, as is the R/S. I'm also suitably intrigued by Supernatural now, just so you know.

The George Michael Maeby is sweet, too, even if he is still called George Michael. *G*

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Damn skippy, miss. I need someone to be intrigued by the Supernatural. Seriously. It's one giant road trip fic! There are cheap motels and diners and lying to strangers about who they are and, and, there are guns.

I'm weak. I need someone to love this with me.

Also, thank you. I can't do anything about George Michael being named George Michael (his grandfather is George and his father is Michael) so I'm glad you find it cute anyway.

Oh, Mal. Oh Sirius.

Lovely.

Thank you. :)

You cannot leave the Supernatural one there! What happpens!??

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Dean saves the day and then mocks Sam some more and then they drive off into the sunset with a vague threat from the locals. Cause, you know, that's just what they do. ;)

The Supernatural one was great, but I wanna know what happened before and what comes after. Who's the friend? Does the chainsaw guy find them? Is it because Sam and Dean start to argue really loudly? Bah.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
1) Nobody. Really. Just a friend, and that's the story Sam is sticking to.

2) Yes.

3) Yes. But Dean claims it was all part of his plan. Sam is doubtful.

Yay. Now I know. And the more you know...

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
The more public service announcements you see? Or is that just NBC? Wait, actually, now I'm thinking it might be CBS. I mean, I'm pretty sure it's NBC, but I can't think of what CBS's is and now this is going to bug me forever.

Also, um, thanks?

I think most stations play those.

Sorry it's just a joke on my campus that everyone makes. We're weird.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
No, no, it's NBC that has 'The More You Know' and CBS is, originally, 'CBS Cares.' I shouldn't--care that is--but I'm just a big geek. Please forgive me. lol

[personal profile] amaresu 2005-11-04 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, it's good to know. Also explains why I haven't seen one in a while as I don't watch much NBC anymore.

Hee, lovely Supernatural drabble. :-)

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :)

[identity profile] blackandwhite02.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Supernatural!!! I love it.

(Umm, the editor in me won't let this go but there should be a dash in between "chainsaw wielding." That's all.)

Don't mind me . . .

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, see, but then there'd be trouble, because Word would say the world count was only 299 then, so I'd have to find another word to add, somewhere, which could really just screw up the whole flow and cause me an endless amount of heartache.

Though now I know who to harass should I ever decide I need a Supernatural beta. ;)

I'm glad you liked it.

[identity profile] dannyblue.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved the Supernatural short. It was so...them, with the bickering and mild abuse. :D

I especially loved this line.

"I really, really hate you," Dean says, and sounds kind of chipper about it, so apparently this is worse than Sam originally thought.

It pulled me into the fic immediately, and I felt like I was right there in the closet with them.

Not a bad place to be at all.

Great story.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I can't say I'd object to being locked in a closet with those two. ::cough::

I'm glad you liked it. lol Thanks. :)

[identity profile] shealynn88.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG...I love the idea of this (I'll have to load some CD's on this thing so it isn't a single album I'm working from...) and am planning to do it soon...

These are really great little drablets. :) I especially loved the Supernatural one (of course)--such great snark!

And the Sirius/Remus one was so poignant. The whole thing...very well crafted and emotionally evocative.

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-04 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad! There should be more players, man. Keep me entertained and all, you know.

And, also, thank you. :)

[identity profile] bouncymonkey.livejournal.com 2005-11-03 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That Supernatural drabble is all kinds of brilliant.

*luffs*

Over from Maeby Tonight, I love the AD one, but all of them are just gorgeous.

Hello! I'm one of the mods over at [livejournal.com profile] bluthcest and we're trying to get more posts to our community (It's a community for all sorts of incest between the Bluth family.) I was wondering if you'd like to post your GM/M drabble on bluthcest?

Thanks- (and they're really wonderful drabbles by the way :D)

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-06 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked them. :)

And thanks for the invite to the comm as well. It's shiny. Plus, you know, I don't want to be the only one having badwrong Michael/Gob thoughts, so it's nice to know that I'm not. lol It makes me want to write more AD fic, just because there's a sad lack of it out there for me to find. God, I can't wait until I get my to-do list under control enough for that... lol

[identity profile] controlld-chaos.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Saw this posted on maebytonight, and I had to say that I really loved it. It was sweet, and you were dead on with both characters. Hope to see more soon!

[identity profile] angelgazing.livejournal.com 2005-11-10 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much. :) I'm glad that you thought I got the characters right, because, well, that's hard with Arrested Development.

Here via bluthcest, but I loved all of these so much!

Such a Sam/Dean moment! Hee.

Heh. You're welcome!

Came here via the Remix, which was a lovely bit of embroidery on a perfectly Sam and Dean moment. I love the chipper "I hate you" line -- that's so Dean. And that Sam's response to Dean admitting that Sam was right is "Oh God, we're going to die." Very fun!

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :D

Here via Remix. I love little scenes like this, where the reader is just dropped into a situation, no prologue, no ending, just a brief little snippet. Sam and Dean are so in character, with their snark and brotherliness, and being trapped in a closet, which is such fodder for hilariousness. Can I say that Dean's "I have a plan" sounds like Sokka, from Avatar? Because it does. Thanks! It was a fun read.

"Hey, remember the guy who stole your face and now you're legally dead?"

Here via remix to say "hee!" and "awesome".
