I love Psych, you guys. Looove it.


Psych pays fan service correctly. They give us the thing with, you know, someone telling Shawn "I've heard it both ways" and they give us Shawn telling Lassiter, "we're Shassie" or whatever. And, hey, they didn't try to shame fandom! They acknowledged us without make it seem like we were bad crazy people doing bad crazy things! Psych writers, I enjoy you peeking around the 4th wall. Good show.

I wish SPN would take note. Fandom may not be the force those inside it think it is. We may not be keeping shows on the air. But I can guarantee that alienating a fairly large part of your fan base is not only decidedly uncool, but also pretty bad business sense. I know the Sam/Dean shippers are a little nutso. I am a Sam/Dean shipper. And I am more than a little nutso about it. I have crazy OTP issues, and I can own that. I don't like being looked down on for it, however. It's like they've spent more than one episode saying, "hahaha, look at the crazy fans!" and, yeah, no. Uncool. It's like SPN tries to make fandom feel like the awkward girl standing against the wall at the dance, and they keep acting like their interested just to laugh when we believe it. Assholes.

Psych tips their hats to the fans, they play it up, they make the jokes, and they don't make it seem like we're doing something wrong. It's fun. It's a joke not everyone gets, and I enjoy being someone who does. If SPN wanted to play it the same way, I'd be much less horrified every time they decide to try and take away my fourth wall. Lord knows I'm not used to having much of one anyway bandom. I have yet to figure out why having a fandom isn't something to be proud of anyway.



I don't know why more people aren't watching Psych, honestly. It continues to be one of my top five shows on TV.

Well, you know I think you're wronger than a wrong thing for shipping Shawn/Lassiter, but in general, yes. *g*

Have you ever seen the pilot of Psych? With Shawn and the target, once he gets the detective to hand him a gun? It's sort of one of Shawn's hottest moments in the series. With Shawn/Lassiter, there can be GUNS. And manhandling. And handcuffs.

I don't exactly have complicated tastes, you know.
