Steve rocked back on his heels, still smiling, “So. Trained to remember details at a crime scene huh?”
Danny was absolutely not going to admit—especially now that he knew Steve’s dad was a cop—that he knew enough about police procedure, and not from television, thank you very much, to know how to not only preserve evidence but report and file assault charges correctly. He sure as hell wasn’t going to admit that he’d read the police training manual he found while going through his grandfather’s stuff and actually been interested in it. It was probably pretty damn outdated, but he was guessing the basics were still the same.
He grinned back at Steve, trying for a tone that didn’t give him away instantly for the police-nerd that he was. “I, uh, watch a lot of CSI. Ya know?” Steve smirked, eyeing him for a second, “Sure. Look, I gotta run. See you around.”
“Wait a second here. ‘I gotta run?' No thanks, nothing?” Steve was already jogging away toward the football field and called over his shoulder with a little wave, “I would’ve been fine by myself.”
“The hell you would’ve! And give me back my damned handcuffs!” That last bit was yelled a little louder than he’d intended and several students turned to stared at him with confused amusement. Steve, the bastard just laughed and kept going.
