Remix authors were revealed today! Due to extreme laziness, I probably will not be reposting mine here. But, for those interested, a fake lj-cut header!
title: The City Is at War (The Can't Stop the Music Mix)
original story: The City Is at War by
marksykins
fandom: bandom
rating: general audiences
summary: "I had a dream," Gabe said, only halfway to serious, pointing a finger to the sky, "where a cobra from the future visited me and told me that it was our duty to take the music back. To take it all back, consequences be damned. Cause it may be the end of the world, motherfuckers, but I'm throwing the motherfucking party."
( No one remembers when The Takeover began. )
Random commentary and note things: Like I've said before, I had this story picked to remix from the very start, because the original is just a small piece of what could be an incredible world to explore. And I had a great time exploring it.
I had a few false starts, trying to figure out what POV would be best for the story to be told, before I finally realized, way later than I should have, that there was no one right answer to that question. Instead I took each character that is shown, and gave them their own spotlight. I tried to show why each of them were there at the end, what they had lost to The Takeover, and what could never be taken away.
After the Cobra show in Kansas City, things sort of came into a much clearer focus for me. Because despite whatever else Gabe said that night, he also said that, "Everything sucks. School sucks. Work sucks." But that music, concerts, those were for letting go, getting lost in it, surrounded by your "brothers and sisters." I sort of love Gabe a lot.
For the record, I had only kind of written one of these characters before. So that was interesting.
